When I made our Ocean Dough I tried no cook playdough for the first time. I wasn't overly fond of the way it turned out. I'm not sure what possessed me to give it another try, but I'm glad I did!
Here is the recipe I used:
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
1 1/2 cups boiling water
- I mixed the dry ingredients together.
- If I was adding any glitter, dried flowers or sequins I would do it now. (I did not this time, because JZ enjoys adding glitter to his playdough creations while playing.)
- I added the oil and mixed well.
- Then I added color. In the past I have used food coloring with great results. This time I chose to use Colorations Liquid Watercolor Paint for no reason other than getting different shades with this batch of playdough. I was going for spring colors.
- Next I added 1.5 cups of boiling water. I heated it in the tea kettle to easily get it to the right temperature.
After adding the water I used a wooden spoon to mix and mix and mix until it was cool enough to touch. Then I kneaded the dough in my hands until all the ingredients were mixed well, and the consistency felt right. I let the dough cool briefly on a sheet of wax paper. (Briefly is key. You don't want to let it dry out.)
