Absorption Art Fireworks

My boys are completely enthralled with fireworks.  I mean, what's not to love?  They are noisy, colorful, and HUGE!  With all of the warm weather most of our days are spent outside in the sprinkler and play pool, but I squeezed in a small fireworks craft.  It took about two minutes to gather the supplies and get started.

All you need are glue, salt, food coloring , water, droppers, and cardstock.



Generally I leave the boys to their own creations, but for the purpose of making fireworks I drew the glue designs.



Dumping salt was the highlight. 



We shook off all the excess salt.  (We have this Tidy Tray which greatly helps contain the mess and minimize waste.)

Then the boys chose which color they want their water and used the dropper to add color to the salted glue.



In the past when we've done absorption art they used a ton of water.  This time they seemed to watch closely as the small drops of water spread through the glue designs and spread the color.  JZ was especially fascinated.



After making a few fireworks I gave them more paper to make their own glue designs and add more colors.



This project always turns into color mixing in our house.  :)

 Despite their best efforts to use the water sparingly, these still ran a bit, but they definitely reminded my guys of fireworks!
