Frog Books and Activities for Preschool and Kindergarten

Yesterday I told you about the MeMeTales Readathon we are participating in.  Well today was the official kick off, and the boys and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

We read The Froggert of Boggert.  I knew the J boys would enjoy the silly words, and lately my oldest is constantly pointing out rhyming words.  Just as I expected, he kept saying, "That one rhymes, and that one rhymes!"

After reading and listening to the book online (more than once per their request!) we enjoyed a simple pocket chart counting game for the cherished rhyme, 5 Speckled Frogs.  The pocket chart inserts were made by PreKinders and are available for free at PreSchool Spot.

I gave my JZ (5) the written number cards and J-Bug (3) the numerical cards, so they could each participate.

I put some frogs on the log then read the rhyme and waited for them to say the correct number of frogs.  They loved putting the number cards in the pockets.

Next we made paper bag frogs.  These literally took less than five minutes to put together.

All you need to make one:

I cut one in half.
green crayons, markers, or paint
To make them "speckled" frogs we used Do-A-Dot markers.
I like tacky tape.  It bonds immediately, and it holds well.

First the boys dotted their bags.

Then they attached the eyes.

I stuck the pipe cleaner tongue through the bag and twisted it a bit on the inside to prevent it from falling out.

They played with their paper frogs for an HOUR.  When JZ woke up from his afternoon nap it was the first thing he requested.

Finally, I set up a simple sensory bin as pictured at the top.
Included in the bin:

shredded paper (grass)
foam (pond)
tiny black pom poms (flies)
