Egg Carton Turtle Craft

A few weeks ago we did a Turtle unit study, and to go along with it we made this cute and simple craft.

Supplies Needed:

JZ (5) and J-Bug (3) painted the egg carton pieces brown, then we left them overnight to dry.  J-Bug wanted one of his unpainted.  The next day they glued a pom pom on each shell for the head.

To make the legs I poked a hole where each leg should go then threaded a pipe cleaner piece through each hole.  I used one piece for two legs.  Then I folded the pipe cleaner over to form a lopp and poked it back in the hole.  To secure it I twisted the short end around the long end.  To secure the tail I twisted a loop around the pipe cleaner legs then poked a bit out of the back.  JZ helped me with the pipe cleaners, but J-Bug preferred to have me do his.

Finally, we glue googly eyes to the pom pom heads, and our turtles were good to go!

A few other fun craft ideas:  Milk Jug Monsters, Bird Nests, Hand Print Apple Trees, and Glowing Aliens.

  3. Very cute! My 3.5 year old daughter and I just tried to make an egg carton caterpillar last night and failed terribly! I was going to post it up but there was no way. It was beyond a fail lol!
