Sticky Table Art - Art for Young Toddlers

Sticky Table Art for Kids

My newest favorite for the toddler duo is Sticky Table Art!  My older boys love sticky table art, and I realized we can easily include Tank and Peanut (16 months) in this activity by choosing large items for our sticky table collages that they can safely mouth.  Sticky table art for kids is such a simple and fun way to let kids of all ages create.

Supplies
*The milk lids did not stick well to the table.  The little boys didn't mind, but JZ (5) got frustrated.  I won't be pulling these out for Sticky Table Art again.

**The rings are small enough to fit in their mouths.  Tank and Peanut like to taste things, but they are past the stage of shoving things into their mouths.  They were supervised the entire time.  Please use items you are comfortable with your child using.  Also, the link takes you to a similar product on Amazon.  I bought the colored rings at Wal-Mart.

I covered our toddler table with contact paper, sticky side up.  Tank and Peanut cracked me up playing with the discarded adhesive backing before we began.  It's such a perfect example of how easily toddlers are entertained and how many non toys can be used for sensory exploration.

When I do collage type art with JZ and J-Bug I typically use collage caddys or small containers for each object.  Since Tank and Peanut would just dump all the art supplies I put everything in one large sensory bin.

They had a blast digging through the tub of art supplies.  They carefully inspected the different objects before putting them on the sticky table.

The older boys got right to work while their little brothers were still exploring.  JZ made a smiling boy with feathers for his hair.

J-Bug made a sun then some flowers.

The little guys loved the sticky texture and enjoyed experimenting with the various objects.

They both especially loved the metal rings.

Their big brothers were very patient and understanding as little hands pulled up their artwork and rearranged pieces.  Sometimes we do activities just for the big boys, and other times we do toddler friendly art.  JZ and J-Bug are terrific at understanding that the toddler friendly activities involve little hands getting in their way and possibly messing up their work.  I think it's important to find a balance.  Sometimes they get to work in peace, and other times they have to be flexible.

  1. What a great idea! I am always looking for things to keep my little ones busy while my older boys do school work, and like you said, it doesn't always work to make a mess!

  5. I've heard about this idea several times before, but I'm worried that the glue on the contact paper isn't safe for little ones... have you read anything about that? Any way you can put my mind at ease? I'd love to try this!
