Gross Motor Games for Summer

I love creating gross motor games for my boys.  One of the first posts I ever wrote was about ice bowling.  Ice bowling is a simple twist on the traditional game, and it is perfect for hot summer days!

How to Play Ice Bowling

Supplies:

• food coloring
• water bottles
• balloons
• water

The first time we played ice bowling I used a toy bowling set that JZ was given.  This time I made my own pins by filling used water bottles with colored water.

To make the balls of ice I filled up water balloons and put them in the freezer overnight.  For added fun I add a few drops of food coloring to the balloon before filling.  The next day I cut the water balloons off and was left with frozen balls of ice.

JZ (5) takes ice bowling very seriously, and he counted the knocked over pins each time and then lined them up again determined to knock more over on his next turn.

To make the ice bowling balls slide easily I sprayed the ground with the hose before we played.

One of the things I am determined to do this summer is play with my kids every day.  Lately my older two boys are really into games, so I try to set aside time each day to play a game with them.
