Kool Aid and Shaving Cream Sensory Play

Recipe for Play - Kool Aid and Shaving Cream

When I have nothing planned for the day, shaving cream is my go to sensory material.  It's inexpensive, easy to clean and FUN!  We've played with shaving cream in many ways, and last summer when we combined shaving cream and Kool Aid it was wonderful messy fun.  Kool Aid is such a great addition to sensory play thanks to the vibrant colors and delicious aroma.

How to Use Kool Aid and Shaving Cream for Sensory Play

Directions:  The set up was incredibly simple.  I covered the bottom of a sensory bin with shaving cream then sprinkled it with Kool Aid powder.  I didn't even use a full can of shaving cream, and there was plenty.  JZ (6) helped me sprinkle the Kool Aid.  He loves setting up activities for his baby brothers.

Once the shaving cream was sufficiently covered I carried the bin outside and invited my toddler twins to play.

Tank (27 months) played first and the longest.

The colors were beautiful as they combined, giving the shaving cream a marbleized effect.

Shaving cream washes clean with water.  Kool Aid temporarily stains skin, but it always washes away before bed time, in my experience.  Here are tips for messy play as well as laundry tips to avoid stains.
