Preschool Activity for Spring - ABC Match

I think it's safe to say that we've gotten our money's worth out of these foam flowers!  They have been the perfect manipulative for J-Bug's preschool activities this spring.  We've used them on our alphabet sticky wall and for our alphabet flower hunt.  Today I'm sharing how we used them for a fine motor alphabet match.  Since I already had the foam flowers and the clothespins with letters, no prep time was needed for this simple preschool activity.

How to Set Up a Fine Motor Alphabet Match

Supplies:

• foam flowers
• clothespins
• Sharpie

I made these alphabet clothespins two and a half years ago, and we still use them regularly.  For this preschool activity J-Bug (4) grabbed a flower from the top of the stack and found the matching clothespin.  The flowers had lowercase letters written on them, and the clothespins had capital letters.

Attaching clothespins is a simple yet effective exercise for building fine motor skills.  When we first started using them J-Bug really struggled.  It was cool watching him easily squeeze them and match the letters now that he is a little older.

As he match a letter set J-Bug sang, "The P says /p/, the P says /p/, every letter makes a sound, the P says /p/.
