Homemade Scented Watercolor Paint Recipe

It has been way too long since I've shared a new paint recipe!  Well actually, this isn't a new recipe.  We've made it before.  Since these scented watercolors are so easy and inexpensive to make I decided they needed to be in a post of their own.

Occasionally we reach for store bought paint, but more often than not we make our own paint.  We made these scented watercolors for the first time a couple of years ago when we had some friends over for a Kool Aid themed play date and then again when we painted in the rain.

How to Make Homemade Scented Watercolors

Supplies:

• Kool Aid powder
• water
• paint brushes
• watercolor paper (optional)

Directions:  Are you ready for this?  Add about a tablespoon of Kool Aid powder to about 1/8 cup of water and stir until all the power is dissolved.  Bam.  That's it!  Okay okay, one more tiny thing, I added a few drops of yellow liquid watercolor paint to the lemon flavored Kool Aid since the yellow was so faint.  Food coloring could also be used.  Or you could just skip the  yellow and stick with the more vibrant colors like cherry red and purple grape!

As soon as Peanut (3) ran over to the table to paint, he picked up one of the containers and inhaled deeply.  Then he asked if he could taste it.  Below you can see the face of his twin brother who did, in fact, taste it.  After the sampling they got to work on their paintings.

As you can see the paint dries well, but it is a little lighter than when it is wet.  We prefer watercolor paper for best results, but any paper will do.
